Takedown Booster Club Elects Officers

Parents met December 1st to organize and officially name the TCHS wrestling team booster club. The name Takedown Booster Club was unanimously accepted. Officers were then nominated and elected for the 2008-2009 season.

Head Coach: Shawn Watson
Assistant Coach: Chance Owens
President : Mark Hasty
V-Pres: Debbie Benson
Secretary: Andrea Heath
Treasurer: Janet Owens

Other topics discussed were the formation or a website or blog for information, match and tournament results, article, pictures, and videos.

The subject of acquiring a tax-exempt number (501C3) was discussed. More information was to be gathered regarding umbrella capabilities under the athletic department's number.

Use of articles currently in inventory in the Devil Pride Ride is to be requested for sale on a consignment basis during home wrestling tournaments and matches. A table will be set-up and manned by Matt Girls/Parents.

Future fundraisers were also discussed. It was suggested that one per quarter( even during off-season) will be held. Those suggested were:

1) sell T-Shirts on pre-order basis
2) sell T-shirts when hosting tournament, on a 25% split with vendor
3) entry fees(when host)
4) door receipts (when host)
5) concessions (when host)
6) raffle power tool to be donated by Lowes
7) chicken plate dinner and/or boston butt sale

It was also stressed that the sponsorships be on-going through-out the season. Mark Hasty challenged those present and all team members and parents to obtain 1 platinum and 5 of any other size sponsorship. Other benefits for the corporate level donors , such as banners at matches and enlarged fonts on the t-shirts, were discussed.

The fundraising is vital due to Coach Watson wishing to expose the team to tougher level tournaments which will match the wrestlers against more state level ranked wrestlers. Most of these are held in North Georgia Counties and require over-night accomodations, meals, entry fees, etc. New singlets, matts for the walls in the practice room, head gear, time clocks, and many other items would also benefit the team. A minimal goal figure of $6000 for the 2008-2009 was discussed, with an optimistc goal in excess of $20,000 to fund upcoming seasons is
needed.
